Royal Kona Coffee - Coffee for Royalty since 1969.
Hawaii's Royal Kona Coffee, established in 1969, brings more than four decades of Kona Coffee roasting expertise to every cup.
Kona Coffee must be roasted correctly with expertise gained over time to achieve perfection and capture this coffee's unique flavor.
The company was the first major roaster of Kona Coffees in Hawaii after statehood in 1959.
Kona coffee can be described as having a fine aroma, full-bodied flavor with distinctive 'winey' notes or as Coffee for Royalty.
Kona coffee is smooth, not bitter.
Coffee roasters worldwide acknowledge that blending the worlds finest coffees to consistently create a special gourmet taste is highly difficult and the finest art within the coffee trade.
Famous Hawaiian chef’s created their unflavored well balanced proprietary Royal Kona Signature blends preserving the unique Hawaiian origin like Roy Yamaguchi’s “Pacific Roast”
and Russell Siu's “3660 On The Rise”, a 30% Hawaiian blend Vienna roast style. Served exclusively in their Hawaiian restaurants as an after dinner coffee.
Royal Kona Coffee is allergen and gluten free.
Packaging, preserving freshness and storage.
The way Royal Kona Coffee maintains its high quality aromatics and flavor is by making sure that fresh roasted coffee is vacuum packaged immediately after roasting - in decorative foil bags with one way vacuum air valves to lock in freshness.
The process removes Oxygen, the air that we breath and that makes food going stale.
This way oxidation cannot take place and the coffee remains fresh.
Days after roasting and being packaged the coffee still produces gasses from the roasting process.
To prevent the coffee packs from getting puffy and tearing, the gasses are released through a one way air valve.
Visitors to the islands are served Kona coffee blends next to their coffee brewer in many local hotels.
For coffee storage, mocha recipe and TIPS for creating a perfect cup of Royal Kona Coffee read the information at the bottom of this page.

Coffee BREWING suggestions for all purpose
ground and coffee beans:
Preheating thick coffee cups or coffee mugs -filled with water- in
the microwave for one minute prevents
that your coffee does not cool off immediately when pouring and
stays warm longer.
When using Royal Kona Coffee, the most important element of a great
cup of coffee is the water.
If your water is high in mineral content or impurities, a good
choice is to switch to a quality bottled water or water filter.
To brew use a French Press or high-grade drip coffee maker with
unbleached - bleach free natural paper coffee filters.
For each cup, use 2 level tablespoons and 6 oz. cool water. For
milder coffee, add slightly more water before brewing.
And, don’t forget to take the coffee off the warming plate when it’s
done brewing.
Coffee left on the warming plate will continue to “cook”. Instead,
pour any coffee that’s left over into a thermal pot,
preferably one with a vacuum seal. Some brewers are now available
with a thermal pot instead of a warmer plate.
It also pays to pre-heat the thermal pot with hot tap water for
about 5 minutes.
Once brewed, remove the coffee filter and coffee grounds to prevent
bitterness.
For best results, keep coffee warm (190 degrees) and serve within 30
minutes. Relax and enjoy Hawaii's favorite coffee
For peak flavor add one tablespoon of ground coffee for every six
ounces of cool water.
Consume your Royal Kona Signature coffee immediately after brewing.
To preserve freshness, store in a cool, dark place.
Coffee STORAGE short and long term to preserve
freshness.
Once opened coffee will start to taste stale after one week.
Short term: Store in a dark place at room temperature in airtight
container.
Long term: Refrigerate unopened bag or store in airtight
container.
Coffee PACKAGING.
Q: Why are some coffee bags hard like a brick and others fluffy?
A: Royal Kona Coffee is packed in a plastic coated multi-ply
aluminum bag which has a freshness valve.
This one-way freshness valve allows natural gases that are emitted
off freshly roasted coffee to escape,
but won't allow any air back into the bag, preserving the freshness
of the coffee.
Sometimes in air travel, the differential in pressure in the
unpressurized cargo cabin will literally suck the gasses out of the
bag,
making it hard like a brick.
The hardness or fluffiness of the bag is not an indication of its
freshness or age.
The shelf life of coffees that are packed this way are approximately
18 months.
Hawaiian Coffee HISTORY and FACTS.
Caffeine is the world's most widely used stimulant drug and coffee
is the form in which millions of people prefer to take it.
It improves short-term memory, boosts muscle power, raises alertness
and tastes delicious.
According to legend, coffee was discovered by Ethiopian shepherds
whose "dancing" sheep ate the berries.
Coffee normally grows in places of rich fertile soil, noticeably
volcanic soils, in high altitude and in tropical weather
It is said that fruits achieve their perfect nutritious state when
grown on fertile land and watered and exposed to the right amount of
sunlight.
Fruits which are left to ripen before picking are said to have the
perfect nutritional value.
Kona coffee is grown on the southwestern coast of the 'Big Island'
of Hawaii. For a decade and a half this Hawaiian coffee has been
harvested in the region and has been classified as high quality
coffee. Interestingly, this coffee defies one of the usual known
requirements needed in growing perfect coffee, the elevation.
Hawaiian Kona coffee is grown in a relatively low altitude. However,
this coffee from Hawaii displays the characteristics and qualities
of superior coffee. In fact, Kona coffee beans are some of the most
sought after coffee beans in the world.
Hawaiian Kona coffee is grown on the slopes of Mount Loa above the
Pacific. The condition of the shade grown coffee resembles that of
Kona coffee, in the sense that both of them undergo a slow growing
and ripening process. Shade grown coffee have the taller trees for
shade that
results in the slow ripening of the cherries or coffee beans. The
natural climate of Hawaii provides a prefect cloud to shade the
coffee beans from the intense rays of the sun. It is nature's
process of perfectly "cooking" this 100% Kona coffee to perfection.
These conditions, along with the fertile volcanic soil, have made
Hawaiian coffee deliver more than just alertness; it produces a
coffee that is a great source of potassium, pantothenic acid and
riboflavin, and trace minerals like, magnesium, thiamin, niacin,
phosphorous, folate and manganese.
Hawaiian coffee is graded according to the bean size, uniformity and
quality. There are four grades assigned to this coffee:
"extra fancy", "fancy", "#1" and "prime". Kona coffee perfectly
deserves its grade of "extra fancy" with its refined and smooth
body, superior aroma, and the rich taste of butter, cinnamon and
clove overtones.
The coffee tree - first introduced to the Islands in 1828 -
flourishes in the Islands due to Hawaii's environment, making Hawaii
the only coffee growing state in the United States. Hawaiian Kona
coffee beans are grown on the Big Island of Hawaii. These coffee
beans are treasured for their flavor and aroma. Kona coffee beans
are some of the most valuable on the market and are known as the
best for their smooth taste. For over 170 years, Kona coffee beans
have been cultivated on a small volcanic area of about 2 x 20 miles
around the district of Kona. The sloping hills of two volcanic
mountains, Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, protect the coffee trees from
the trade winds. The Kona district has a unique microclimate with
predictable afternoon cloud cover shades for the beans as they grow;
gentle afternoon summer rains naturally irrigate the beans as they
mature. These perfect growing conditions produce a taste that's rich
and smooth. Kona winters are cool and during the rainy summer the
Konacoffee beans mature.
Each cup of Royal Kona coffee is enveloped in the in the exquisite
flavors that only Hawai'i's unique temperate climate and volcanic
soil can provide.
